Practicing Stoicism

June 13, 2023

TL;DR: who am I kidding, we all know that this is a ranting blog, right? Haha. But, I had read some stuff on stoicism and listening to other’s experience with it. That could be useful for you, so, go here to read more about it!

Today my standing-desk-that-I-actually-use-to-lower-the-desk-height broke.

I should be a bit more ok if it just stop working. Yet… well let me continue my story first.

So, with a broken desk, do you know what it means? It’s Bob-the-builder time! I took out my mighty Bosch screwdriver, hoping that it actually is a magic wand, “REPARO!”

Unfortunately, I’m no Bob nor Hermione..

I searched around on the internet, what does the error code on my standing desk display means. Oh, it means, that there’s something broken with the motor, they suggested that I press the down arrow and try to reset the table.

Yes, the usual, “have you turn off and turn it on again?“. No matter what your problem is, be it router, not working code, or standing desk, HAVE YOU TURN OFF AND TURN IT ON AGAIN??

So I keep pressing the down arrow, not realizing that only one leg is getting shorter until it’s too late. My table is TILTED! The left leg at lowest height, the other SLIGHTLY higher than my usual sitting height.

It’s TILTED! My desk was TILTED!

Before realizing that it was tilted, I was like, “well it’s broken and I had taken out my magic wand and I still can’t fix it, there’s no other way but waiting for tomorrow to turn it on again.”

I was quite stoic, external force thing, there’s nothing that I can do but controlling my emotion stuff.

But, hell, it’s TILTED.

It hurts to the gut!

Of course my journey of trying to fix it don’t stop there. I asked my partner help to turn the table upside down and I try to kind of pull the leg, hoping that maybe there’s something stuck somewhere and turning it upside down will help somehow. A very stupid move, I know. My emotion turned upside down, just like my desk.

What? Solution??! I guess you have never read my post. Haha. There’s no solution. Yet.

I‘m planning to call the customer service, but I need to be mentally prepared, because I’m not that good at local language yet.

Now, I’m just hoping that I could stop myself trying to turn it on tonight and tomorrow afternoon when I turn it on, it’ll be fixed on its own.

Which in my life is kinda zero possibility, nothing ever fixed itself in my life T.T

Now, zeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeenn (or at least trying to be)..

UPDATE! For now, leaving it off (completely cut off electricity) for almost 24 hours has done it for me. I went back home from the office today, plug the cable, and still see the error codes on the display. I press the down arrow anyway and the right leg went down! Display changed from E07 to ASR (maybe), and after reaching bottom most, it just show height like usual.

All of my settings are still there with no problem
